5 Things to do BEFORE you Characterize Your Character in MotionBuilder

By Mocappy Leave a Comment

In this tutorial we’re going to look at 5 quick things you can do to your character BEFORE you characterize it that will make it easier to work with in MotionBuilder.

These might seem a bit random at first, but this is exactly what I do every time I import a new character into MotionBuilder.

In this video you’ll learn:

  1. How to correctly scale your character.
  2. How to set the skeleton joint visibility options and adjust skeleton joint sizes
  3. How to organise your scene with Groups, Folders and Namespaces
  4. How to change the playback speed, frame range and frames per second (FPS)
  5. How to use keyboard shortcuts to frame your character in the different camera views.

Hi, I’m Simon

I’m a Motion Capture & MotionBuilder specialist. I help animators and studios go from mocap-curious to mocap-confident – helping them transform raw mocap into production-ready, life-like animations.

Over the last 20+ years I’ve helped bring hundreds of characters to life for studios like DNEG, Sony Interactive, and Centroid Motion Capture – now I teach those same MotionBuilder and mocap workflows through tutorials, courses and training.
